The Artists of the gallery 2008
At the confines of strangeness and sublime, where the elements, earth, air, water, fire play at the highest, five artists, painters, sculptor, engraver, try to capture the world. They question, experiment, immerge their intense look into space, material, infinity, in search of the essential, the mysteries of life, either through spirituality, metaphysics, or exploration into abyssal depths. But whatever their walk, the link between their different expressions can be defined in terms of fire and passion, uttered with a recognized talent, which is confirmed by the international fame they undergo.
Artists to be discovered or rediscovered : Henry Rouyer, a master of colours, a painter-poet-philosopher whose works have been shown around the world, projects through his “Windows”, the eye of the thinker and the metaphysician, in a language detached from all realistic forms. The colour fields, crisscrossed with small multicoloured spots and signs, executed with wax or white paint, translate the narrow dialogue the artist maintains with nature, as a sensible observer.
The sculptures and mobiles by Alain Cantarel, in gold bronze, submitted to ordeal by fire during long weeks, oxidize in a turquoise coloured patina, alternating with gold and brilliant black. Result of a true technical prowess, the mobiles, with a light pressure of the finger, have a capacity of developing into space and metamorphosing, like for example Mobil Soleil or Mobil Eclosion.
The watercolours of Laura Meredith, with a pictorial touch of an extreme fineness, precision and reserve, or at the opposite realized in a state of trance, bring freshness, poetry, humour and irony. The overflowing imagination of the artist, drawing to a wide field of exploration, surprises so much through the Tribulations of a Swiss knife, the inquisitor eye of Big Brother than the detailed examination of an erupting volcano.
Oliver West, originating from southern Great Britain, inspired by the wild beauties of the Cornwall coasts, transcribes them at the time of his morning wanderings, on a metal or stone plate. Captivating the atmosphere of the magic sites invading his eyes with light and space, he stares at the shimmering aquatic expanses of see, and reports the traces of his observations with great knowledge, using different and original techniques.
Bernard Garo, a monolithic painter, passionate among all, whose tremendously powerful work thunders, is fascinated by material, the unknown, the gigantism; playing sometimes beyond measure. Very well known artist of the Côte vaudoise, he presents, as a preview of the exhibition he will have next Fall at the gallery, a characteristic work of his Iceland cycle, issued from his adventure at the confines and desert regions of earth.
